You can change any piece of text a plugin shows, such as a button label or a notice, without editing the plugin’s files. The free Say What? plugin swaps the original text for your own, and your change survives plugin updates.
When you’d use this
- A label or message doesn’t match how your store talks to customers.
- You want different wording on one button without translating the whole plugin.
How to use it
1. Install Say What?
Go to Plugins » Add New Plugin, search for "Say What?", then install and activate it.
2. Find the original text and its text domain
Say What? needs two things:
- Original string: the text exactly as the plugin defines it.
- Text domain: the identifier the text is registered under, usually the plugin’s folder name.
What you see on your store isn’t always the original string. Text that includes a number, such as a review count, usually comes from a string with a placeholder in it (like %s), and that placeholder version is what you enter.
3. Add the replacement
In Say What?’s text changes screen, fill in Original string, Text domain and Replacement string, then click Update. Leave Text context empty unless you know the string has one.
4. Check your store
Reload the page where the text appears. If it hasn’t changed, the original string or text domain doesn’t match: check both for typos, stray spaces and placeholders.

Translate a plugin into another language
Say What? is for changing a few strings.
