Under Constellation > Plans, you can create a plan that will create a set of rules for your membership. This controls which protected content members can access, what discounts they receive, and what email content they’ll receive.
All rules are optional! For example, you don’t have to restrict any products, or provide member discounts.
When you create or edit a plan, you can add a slug (internal nickname), choose how members gain access to this group of perks, and how long memberships last.
Under Restrict content, you can choose pages, posts, or custom content types to protect. You can also protect groups of content with taxonomies, like categories or tags. Adding any access rules here will make any public content protected, only allowing members to see it.
The most specific rules take priority over less specific rules. For example, I could protect all of my blog posts, but then add rules to drip or delay access to specific posts until after a trial period, or a few days after the membership begins. The rules for specific posts will be favored over a rule protecting all posts.
Product protection works very similarly to content restriction, with one additional setting: you can choose whether products are only viewable by members (hidden from visitors and non-members), or whether only purchasing is protected (letting visitors see member products, but not buy them).
Once you’re done with content protection, you can also set up member discounts. Choose all products, categories, or specific products to create discount rules — give members a percentage off the list price, or a specific amount (e.g. $5).
Optionally, choose if members of this plan should see a “members area” in their account. The Members Area can list the perks of the membership, such as a list of protected blog posts or discounted products.
Finally, you can customize the membership email content for this plan if desired! This can be a good way to iterate plan benefits, like discounts, to encourage members to renew or to win back churned accounts.
