Background sync runs automatically on schedules you control — recurring checks pull product, customer, and inventory changes from Lightspeed at configurable intervals (as fast as every minute, up to every 60, or off), so a sale in-store reaches your website without you touching anything. Full order sync to Lightspeed — including automatic tax rate creation on the Lightspeed side — has been stable since v3.1.0. On top of that, the plugin checks live stock directly against Lightspeed the moment a shopper adds an item to their cart, and again at checkout — so oversells are blocked even in the window before the next scheduled sync runs.

Why not just use Lightspeed’s own free connector?
If you’re on X-Series, Lightspeed offers its own connector to WooCommerce at no extra cost, set up from inside Lightspeed. It’s a real option and worth trying first if your setup is simple: one store, one location, X-Series only.
Here’s where it stops. It doesn’t support R-Series at all. Lightspeed provides essentially no hands-on support for it — when something breaks, you’re troubleshooting alone. And it isn’t a WooCommerce plugin: it’s configured and controlled from the Lightspeed side, so it doesn’t get WooCommerce-specific handling for things like matrix/variation products, staging protection, or field-level sync control.
Kestrel exists for the retailers the free connector doesn’t fully serve: anyone on R-Series, and anyone on X-Series who wants WooCommerce-specific sync logic plus a support team that will actually get on a call about it. Known limitations
These are the current boundaries of what the plugin does. Worth knowing before you buy.
- One Lightspeed store per WooCommerce site. If you have multiple Lightspeed locations, you choose one to sync with WooCommerce. There’s no per-location stock model on the WooCommerce side today, and no build is currently scheduled — we’re tracking demand internally. Contact support if this is a requirement for your store; hearing from more retailers who need it helps us prioritize it.
- WooCommerce backorders are not supported. When a product hits zero stock, it goes out of stock in WooCommerce. Backorder allowances set in WooCommerce will be overridden by the sync.
- Lightspeed is the source of truth for product data. Product names, prices, and descriptions are managed in Lightspeed and pushed to WooCommerce. Changes made directly in WooCommerce to those fields will be overwritten on the next sync.

Does this work with Lightspeed R-Series, not just X-Series?
Yes — full support for both R-Series and X-Series, with products, inventory, customers, and orders syncing on either. Lightspeed doesn’t offer a native WooCommerce connector for R-Series at all, so this is the only WooCommerce-native option for those retailers. (Lightspeed eCom is a separate product and isn’t compatible with either series.)
Does this sync customers as well as products and inventory?
Yes. You can pull customers from Lightspeed into WooCommerce, push WooCommerce customers to Lightspeed, and configure automatic sync when customers are created or updated on either side. Customer sync is controlled separately from product sync under Lightspeed > Settings > Customers.
Can I control which fields sync and which don’t?
You can control SKU sync, how categories are handled (never sync, replace existing, or append), and when product changes push to Lightspeed (on demand or automatically). Core fields like name, description, price, and stock sync as part of the standard product sync and can’t be individually disabled.
Can I manage products in WooCommerce instead of Lightspeed?
You can edit products directly in WooCommerce, but those changes won’t push back to Lightspeed — and they’ll be overwritten the next time the plugin syncs from Lightspeed. The recommended workflow is to manage products in Lightspeed and let the plugin keep WooCommerce updated. This keeps data consistent and avoids conflicts.
What happens to WooCommerce orders? Do they go into Lightspeed?
Yes. When an order reaches Processing or Completed status in WooCommerce, the plugin records a corresponding sale in Lightspeed, including matching tax rates, and adjusts inventory there. If you need to manually push an order, open it, update the status, and save. The sync triggers automatically.
We have a staging site and a live site. Can both connect to Lightspeed?
Only one WooCommerce site should actively sync to a Lightspeed store at a time. The plugin includes a built-in Staging Mode — it detects common staging environments automatically and pauses syncing. You can also toggle it manually under Lightspeed > Settings > General. Keep staging mode on for your staging site and off for production. Our support team can walk you through it if needed.
How is this different from building a sync with Zapier or Make?
DIY automations work until the Lightspeed API changes. Then they break and you’re debugging it on a Sunday. This plugin is maintained specifically for Lightspeed’s API, tested against every WooCommerce update, and backed by support from the people who built it.
